Pennsylvania Log Homes

  Pennsylvania-New Listing Oct 2008

Item # (RC26x32lOct022008) FListing
This corner post cabin is a rarer style typical to an early German demographic here in PA. It dates to the early 1800's and is unusually large with unusually high ceilings. It is a hand hewn oak cabin with a full two stories and an attic and the overall measurements are 26 ft. by 32 ft. It is rare that a cabin that large would not have an an addition making up some of that footage. This is all original and built at the same time. As you can see in the photos, the owners uncovered and restored the bottom half of the front of this house. Those logs have not been replaced, simply restored and that is how the entire cabin would look if the remainder of the logs were restored. You can also see that there are four corner posts and a center post on each side of the cabin. The logs are mortised into those posts, as is the summer beam of the floor joist systems (shown in center picture).&nbs! p; Insi de, this house was also redone and has doors, trim work and mantles in Colonial colors. Whatever is salvageable will be saved and included with this package including doors, hardware as well as any salvageable flooring. The attic boards are hand planed and beaded on the bottom and range from 9-18" wide! The height both downstairs and upstairs is a full 8 ft. and the attic is 7.5 ft. at the center. The floor joists are mortised into a summer beam and the rafters are hewn on all four sides and pegged in the center. The building is in great condition overall and needs repair only on one side, below the windows. Replacements for those areas are also included in this package. The cost for the frame, floor joist systems, rafters, replacements, any salvageable flooring, doors, mantles, hardware etc, dismantling, tagging, printing and loading is $30K. This cabin must be removed completely by Nov. 1, 2008

Item # (RCBacktotheBeginningOct022008) FListing
This barn, located in Bucks County, is where our company began. Jay had cleaned out a stall in the basement to start his furniture making business in 1996 and it all took off from there. This barn is in overall good condition, but needs some TLC. It is a mixed species with all oak sleepers and is a combination of hand hewn and mill sawn timbers. The overall footprint of this barn is 46 ft. * 36 ft. However, the last ten foot section of the 46 ft. side has some damage. This bent could be left off, making a 36 ft. * 36 ft. barn or we can supply replacements for the damaged logs in order to rebuild as a 46 * 36. ft. This barn is unique in that you enter on the gable end of the barn and have three very long bays. The wall height is appx. 15 ft. and the peak height is appx. 29 ft. There are 4 bents and 3 bays in this barn. The widths of the two outside bays are appx. 10 ft. and the inside bay is a! ppx. 14 ft. There are several options for this barn: it is available as a frame only for $16k for the 36 * 36 ft. option; 20K for the 36 * 46 ft. with replacements; $20k for 36 * 36 ft. w/ sleepers; 36 * 46 w/ sleepers for $24K; It is also available available as 36 ft. * 36 ft. with sleepers, all salvageable siding and flooring for $25K or as a 36 ft * 46 ft. at $29k including replacements.

  Pennsylvania-New Listing Oct 2008

Item # (RCDoubleCabinOct022008) FListing
This cabin is a four sided, saddle-knotched cabin with a three sided post addition. The four sided, original cabin measures 22 * 18 ft. (a full 2 story---2 floors plus an attic). The addition measures 15 * 18 ft, also a full two story, for an overall measurement of 37 * 18 ft. Both are made from hand hewn oak logs. Both include floor joists and rafters.

There are several options with this cabin. The first is to reassemble it exactly as it is. The second is to separate the buildings. The four sided, original cabin could be put up as a 22 * 18 ft. cabin. The 15 * 18 ft. addition could be easily converted either into a 1 story measuring 30 * 18 or into a dog-trot cabin (This would be two 15 * 18 ft, one story cabins connected by an open breezeway). The corner posts on the addition do not run the entire height of the cabin, but run to the second floor joist system. What that means is this addition could easily be "cut in half" height-wise. You could then take the second floor, flip it and set it at ground level next to the first floor. You could then either attach the posts, creating an enclosed one story or you could leave space between them, timber frame the fourth wall on each building and then use one roof line, with an opening between the two now separate cabins (a "dogt! rot" wi th a loft).

The price for the original cabin with the addition is $28K. This price includes the frame, rafters, floor joists, any salvageable flooring, doors and stairs, tagging, printing, dismantling and loading of the cabin.
